Spinnerstown Hotel History
In 1720 a man named Morris Morris received a land grant of 1,000 acres known as "The Great Swamp," from William Penn. In 1741, the Neumans bought a part of the grant from Morris Morris, which was located in what is now Milford Township. Over the next 100 years, people began moving into the area. The Spinner Family was of this first wave of settlers.
In the 1840’s, David Spinner owned and operated “The Inn” until his son, Edwin Spinner, took over in 1853 and named it “The Sign of the Spread Eagle.” The Inn served as a resting place between Philadelphia and New York. Since then, it has changed ownership fifteen times. Through it all, the Inn has retained its charm and position as a community mainstay.
On June 10, 1959 our family purchased the establishment, now known as the Spinnerstown Hotel Restaurant. We have owned and operated the ‘Hotel’ longer than any previous owner in its 250-year history. We look forward to welcoming you into our friendly atmosphere for many years to come by offering quality food and spirits and warm hospitality.
